Tour Itinerary: Marrakech to Merzouga Desert shared Tour

Day 1 : Marrakech – High atlas - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley {330 km} 7 Hours

This morning our group 3 days desert tour from Marrakech will start with pick up from your accommodation in Marrakech after having a delicious breakfast then we will be traveling over Tizi n’Tichka pass ( 2260 m altitude ) while enjoying splendid views of the high Atlas mountains and authentic Berber villages.

On the way with stops to take photos then continue to Kasar Ait Ben Haddou (fortified village) the famous Kasbah declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 numerous of films have been recorded in this picturesque place including Gladiator, Babel, Obelix, Queen of the desert, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, The message, Sahara with Penélope Cruz and more…Free time to have lunch at a local restaurant.

After having lunch our Marrakech group desert tour continues to Ouarzazate a city south of Morocco’s High Atlas mountains, known as a gateway to the Sahara Desert where we will see Oscar Atlas film studio that considered the largest film studio in Morocco and Taourirt kasbah another heritage site located in the center of town.

Afterward, we will pass through the beautiful palm grove of Skoura, Rose valley known for its yearly rose festival and cosmetic products in the month of May, driving through the valley of thousand kasbahs you will view so many old centuries adobe kasbahs arrival to Dades Valley in the afternoon, dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 2 : Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Erfoud - Merzouga camel trekking {270 km} 4 Hours

Today, after a healthy breakfast at the hotel our 3 day shared Morocco desert tour depart to Todra Gorge passing by different original Berber villages along the route including Tinghir where we’ll stop to admire the wonderful Todra valley full of palm trees and vegetation before we arrive at Todra Gorges that are currently one of the most popular rock climbing destinations in Morocco.

Where we will have a short walk through its narrow and high canyons that can reach 300 m high after that we’ll drive to Tinjdad and Touroug where we’ll have lunch at the restaurant than to Erfoud a destination for filmmakers due to the beauty of the surrounding Sahara Desert and the town’s oasis areas and it is also famous of fossils minerals and yearly dates festival.

Afterward, we will continue our way to Merzouga and great Erg Chebbi sand dunes from here you will take camel trekking for approximately one hour and a half in order to get to your Berber tents during the trek you will take a break in the middle of the dunes to watch a lovely sunset, do sandboarding if this is an activity you’re interested in, take pictures and admire breathtaking landscapes.

After the sun goes down we will continue to the camp where you will be greeted with a glass of mint tea, have dinner, listen to traditional Berber drumming music around the campfire, enjoy starry sky… and overnight stay at a comfortable camp in Merzouga desert.

Day 3: Erg Chebbi dunes – Draa Valley - Agdez - Ouarzazate - Marrakech {564 km} 8 Hours

We will wake up early morning to watch a beautiful sunrise, after these unforgettable moments you will have breakfast and shower at camp. Then you can either ride the camels or transfer by 4×4 as an option back to the originally started point where you will meet your driver.

We’ll travel all the way back to Marrakech driving through the arid pre-desertic area where we´ll see acacia typical trees of this scenery. On the way to the magnificent Draa valley we´ll make some stops to enjoy the beautiful views of the river that gives name to the valley, The Draa is Morocco’s longest river (1100 km) it is formed by the confluence of the Dadès River and Imini River.

Our shared Marrakech desert trip continues towards Ouarzazate crossing the Anti Atlas which is remains one of the least-visited parts of Morocco’s mountainscape.
